This Privacy Policy describes how the Canadian Price Parity browser extension (“the Extension”) handles information when you use it. Auburn AI publishes this Extension. This document is required by the Chrome Web Store and is intended to give you a complete and honest picture of what the Extension does with respect to your data.
Summary in plain language
The Canadian Price Parity Extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your personal information. Everything it does happens locally in your browser. There are no servers, no analytics, no tracking, and no remote data storage.
What the Extension reads
When you visit a product page on one of the following supported United States retailer websites, the Extension reads visible product information from that page:
- Amazon.com
- Best Buy (bestbuy.com)
- Walmart (walmart.com)
- Target (target.com)
- Costco (costco.com)
- Home Depot (homedepot.com)
- Newegg (newegg.com)
The Extension extracts only:
- The product title displayed on the page
- The product price displayed on the page
- The product identifier (such as Amazon’s ASIN) when visible in the page URL
This reading happens entirely within your browser. The information is used only to construct the on-page comparison overlay you see in the top-right of the page.
What the Extension does NOT do
- Does not transmit any data to any external server
- Does not contact Auburn AI servers, third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or any other remote endpoint
- Does not collect or store your name, email address, IP address, browsing history, search queries, or any personally identifiable information
- Does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies
- Does not modify the underlying webpage content beyond adding the floating comparison overlay
- Does not run on any websites other than the supported United States retailer pages listed above
- Does not use AI training, machine learning model updates, or remote configuration
Local storage
The Extension uses the browser’s built-in storage to remember your preferences (for example, whether the overlay is currently enabled or temporarily hidden). This data lives only in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time by removing the Extension or clearing your browser’s extension storage.
Permissions explained
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions and uses them only as described:
- activeTab and host permissions on the supported retailer domains: required to read the product information on the page you are currently viewing.
- storage: required to remember your enable/disable preference between sessions.
The Extension does not request access to any other websites, your tab history, your bookmarks, your downloads, or any other browser data.
Affiliate links
When you click a comparison link in the overlay (for example, to search the same product on Amazon.ca), the link may include an Amazon Associates affiliate tag. If you make a purchase through that link, Amazon may pay Auburn AI a small commission at no cost to you. This affiliate participation does not change the price you pay, and it does not give Auburn AI access to your purchase information beyond what Amazon’s own affiliate program reports anonymously to participants.
This affiliate disclosure complies with the United States Federal Trade Commission and Canadian Competition Bureau guidelines on endorsement disclosure.
Children’s privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children. Because the Extension does not collect personal information from any user, it cannot collect information from children either.
Changes to this policy
If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be reflected in the Extension’s Chrome Web Store listing description.
